  when we believe that the bible really is the inspired word of god, we approach it with a certain mindset that does weird things to our thinking abilities, namely shutting them off.

  due to this cognitive bias, we blindly accept that whatever we read in the bible--no matter how bizarre, outrageous or non-sensical--must be there for a good reason, even if we don't or can't understand it.

  the fault of course is ours, not the bible's, and most certainly not god's!

  i was an elder until march 2012 until i resigned.

  i then stopped going to meetings in october 2012 and have enjoyed 9 months of freedom that i have found to be jouful!

  i loved learning ttatt and sites like this and jwfacts.com have been excellent.. i told the elders that i needed a break and that they should not contact me unless it was a social visit and true to their word they have done that.

  Your facts and logics are undsiputable.

  But...those elders will just ignore it. They are are trained to ignore such questions. Maybe they will talk about new and brighter light. They will just ask you if you believe that the GB are gods channel of communication. If you are doubtful about that you will get a foot in your ...you know what.

  Hundreds of people have tried this...it will not work. It will only activate the "Apostate Alarm Bells" among the elders.

  British zone visit from David Splane - a report from the special meeting in Glasgow

  well i went to a "special meeting" in the armadillo today where a 2 & 1/2 hour programme was relayed from london at 1pm.

  apparently the letters of invitation only went out a month or so ago and not all congregations were invited.

  there were 2,900 of us from around scotland.

  MIL letter to my wife

  background: my wife and i are inactive, we stopped attending in 2005. raised as jws, were pioneers, i was elder etc... .

  our kids are in college, also inactive but are baptised.

  my wife went back to college, getting her degree this month at age 48!

  This is really important to understand. Don't feed her cult persona by questioning the watchtower or it's dogma.....feed her authentic persona by talking to her about every-day life. Try not to talk to her about that letter.....it is obvious that it vas written by a Cult persona, not a real typical grandmother.

  afew years ago an elder at a witness gathering decided to dress sort of like elvis...i mean he had a white suit and big belt with sunglasses...called his wife pracilla etc.

  big deal...he sang love me tender..etc.

  all the witnesses clapped and cheered.

  preaching work?

  we as jw's have always been told by the gb that the preaching work is paramount, they imply that if your not preaching that your not going to make it to the kingdom.

  so what scriptures do they use for this idea?

  the only one i can think of is the one in matt.

  They do...but I think it was in the same chapter that God commande Ezekiel to use shit as fuel when baking his bread. I wonder what a JW-baker wold use?

  There is some reasons for preaching. First, Rutherford realised that bookstores would never distribute the WT-litterature, so the only way to sell it was by door to door sale.

  The preaching keeps people busy. They invest time, effort and emotion in it, that mekes them tighter connected to the org.

  My Experience at the Safeguard Your Conscience Special Assembly Day

  so i have some interesting news about the special assembly day.

  normally at the assembly, my parents pay close attention and take turns taking notes.

  then after the program, they enjoy socializing for some time.

  I think this is important. Often it is emotional stuff that breaks the cognitive dissonance.....this was probably a wake up call for them.
